In whats believed to be the first partnership deal of its kind in the UK … we are joining forces with the local cinema.
Tai Calon Community Housing is sponsoring the Market Hall Cinema in Blaenau Gwent, which is one of the oldest in Wales and celebrates its 120th anniversary next year.
The Market Hall Cinema was saved from closure earlier this year after a group of volunteers agreed to take it over.
Chloe Williams from our Communities Team said: “I have a lot of happy memories watching films at the Market Hall Cinema as a child. I, like a lot of people in Blaenau Gwent, was really concerned that such a fantastic place could have been lost. This is why we are delighted to be the cinema’s community sponsor and to support such a worthwhile cause.”
Tuesdays at the cinema will become Tai Calon Tuesday with seats costing just £3.50 each. From the New Year, tenants and residents will also be able to use their time banking credits to buy tickets. They are rewarded with one 2for1 voucher for every two hours of their time they give the organisation and other community projects.
Peter Watkins Hughes of the Market Hall Brynmawr Community Group said: “We are thrilled to have Tai Calon on board with us. The Market Hall Cinema is a well loved and used institution. 2014 is going to be a fantastic year for us with our 120th anniversary and to have Tai Calon as a partner means it will be an exciting one as well.”
The community sponsorship deal means we will also be able to advertise community events, job and training opportunities in the cinema and on the building itself. We already sponsor BRfm 97.3 fm and have our own show, Tai Calon on the Radio, on the community radio station every Wednesday between 10am and 11am.
