Making A Difference In Blaenau Gwent

Young people and families across Blaenau Gwent had a very special Christmas thanks again to businesses working with us.

The organisations gave £12,500 to our Christmas Appeal – raising nearly twice as much as last year when we launched the initiative.

The donations paid for food, clothing, household items, presents, gas and electricity tokens for local people who would have otherwise gone without.

Vicki Thomas, Head of Procurement and Compliance at Tai Calon said: “We were overwhelmed by the response to our second Christmas Appeal and can not thank our contractors and suppliers enough for their generous support.”

The gifts were distributed by Blaenau Gwent Food Bank, Hafan Cymru and Blaenau Gwent Social Services.

Joan Harper from Blaenau Gwent Social Services said: “We thought ourselves extremely lucky to receive the help we had last year. To be given even more this year is unbelievable and it made such a real difference. You just could not image the faces of those who received the gifts at Christmas.”

We held a reception to thank everyone for their donations and to show them some of the items which had been purchased.

Darren Thomas of Donegan & Thomas Decorating Services said, “We gave because we wanted to give something back. It is marvellous that so many people were able to get something that the rest of us take for granted.”

Another contractor, Jefferies Contractors Limited, also offered to fit the wardrobes and curtain rails which had been donated for the Hafan Cymru refuge.

Board member, Beverley Lucas, said: “I was really surprised by the amount and range of donations and I am totally overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone who gave to our appeal.”

Peter Cahill, Interim Chief Executive, said: “This has been a really fantastic achievement and long may it continue. We are so thankful for the support of businesses working with us and to members of our Board and staff who also donated to the appeal.”
