National Apprenticeship Week 2014
March 4, 2014
Construction firm, Seren Contractors is taking on three new apprentices after meeting young hopefuls at an event organised by Tai Calon Community Housing. The breakfast get together had been arranged to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week at its headquarters in Blaenau Gwent.
Tai Calon had invited its own apprentices and those employed by contractors working with the organisation. However, when staff at Tai Calon heard that Seren was looking for three apprentices they decided to lend a helping hand.
Andrew Wall from Seren said: “Our existing three apprenticeships are coming to an end so we are looking for two apprentice carpenters and an apprentice plasterer. The breakfast get together gave us the opportunity to meet youngsters who are looking for a career. We are delighted that we are able to offer apprentices to three of them.”
One of them is Chris Beynon. He was so keen to gain an apprenticeship as a carpenter he turned up an hour early. However, his determination paid off and Chris was offered a job with Seren. Another of the successful candidates is Ryan Gore. He is currently working with Tai Calon’s Clean and Green team. However, he will now become an apprentice plasterer. Ryan summed up both their feelings when he described the job offer as a “fantastic and unbelievable opportunity.”
Bill Pearch, Director of Property and Asset Management at Tai Calon, added: “We are extremely grateful to Seren for creating these apprenticeships. The organisation, like us, is committed to training the next generation of builders. It was also great to meet all the apprentices currently going through their training and to learn about how they are doing in their careers.”
