Skip it in Bryn Farm
April 5, 2013
The chilly Easter holiday weather did nothing to dampen the spirits of residents who turned out to clean up their neighbourhood.
The “Skip-it” event was organised by Tai Calon Community Housing and Bryn Farm Tenants and Residents Association in Brynmawr. During the day they, together with help from Keep Wales Tidy, Communities First, Gwent Police and Blaenau Gwent council cleared 25 bags of rubbish and filled 3 skips from around the area.
Susan Wall from the Bryn Farm TRA said: “This is our second similar event and we decided to hold it after a request from tenants and residents. The event has been another great success.”
The association is also celebrating after being nominated for a TPAS Cymru Participation Award, the social housing sector’s equivalent of an “Oscar!” It has been shortlisted for the Tenant Participation Projects Award. The awards celebrate innovative ways in which tenants work with their landlords to improve services. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Cardiff this May.
“We are so pleased that the association is being recognised for its great work. Everyone works so hard for their area,” said Chloe Williams, Community Investment and Involvement officer with Tai Calon.
Meanwhile, Tai Calon itself has also been put forward for a TPAS Cymru Participation Award. Its Welfare Reform Campaign, which raised awareness about the changes to the benefit system, is in the finals for the category of Wales Communication in Housing Award.
