Tai Calon Work Club

Looking for a job can be hard work. Just how do you make the right impression in your covering letter? What do you say in your application form or wear at the interview?

The answers, and much more, can be found at Work Club which is being launched this month by Tai Calon Community Housing, Blaenau Gwent’s largest social landlord.

Work Club will be held every Thursday, from 8 August, at Tai Calon’s office, Solis One in Blaina. It will be open between 1pm and 3pm and will help tenants and residents get onto the careers ladder, gain qualifications or explore opportunities for volunteering.

It has been set up in partnership with Hafan Cymru, Communities 1st and Get Blaenau Gwent Online.

Ross Watts, Head of Communities, at Tai Calon said: “Unemployment in Blaenau Gwent is almost double the national average for Wales. We are determined to do what we can to help those looking for a job.

“We have fantastic facilities here for Work Club. We have the space, the computers and the commitment to help people find employment.”

Work Club will be staffed by experienced tutors, who can give advice and practical help in finding a job. People attending Work Club would also be able to access their Universal Job Match account.

Hafan Cymru is registered with Agored Cymru as a training provider. Anyone attending Work Club will also have the opportunity to gain qualifications to reflect their developing skills which would offer a valuable addition to a CV.

Tai Calon is determined to create as many employment opportunities as possible within the county. It tries to recruit local people and encourages businesses working with it, to do the same. It also aims to spend as much of its income as possible in the Blaenau Gwent area supporting local businesses and the economy.
