Tai Fest 2014
August 4, 2014
The threatened thunderstorms and rain stayed away to make Tai Calon Community Housing’s annual tenant funday another outstanding success.
Nearly 530 people attended Tai Fest which had the World Cup as its theme. Staff dressed in Brazilian football shirts and the crowds were even entertained by a troupe of Samba dancers.
Tai Fest is a free day out for tenants. Everything from the tickets, transport, lunch as well as the activities are provided free of charge.
Ross Watts, Head of Communities at Tai Calon, said “We have had some fantastic comments from tenants about how much they enjoyed Tai Fest. It really is great to know they and their families had so much fun.”
Tai Fest was sponsored for a second year running by Keepmoat, one of Tai Calon’s contractors.
Paul Senior, who is Keepmoat’s Regeneration Managing Director for Midlands & South Wales said: “It has been a superb event, everyone had a smile on their face. I think that’s the most important part, that it’s a great, big family event. We’re very proud to be a part of it. We get a buzz from being a part of it.”
Other contractors, A P Waters, P&P Building and Roofing Contractors, DMW Environmental Safety Ltd, Ralphy’s Roofing Ltd, Nuaire, R&M Williams, Glanmor Developments Ltd, Troy Electrical, Wilts electrical wholesalers and Leighkins, also supported the day.
Jen Barfoot, Tai Calon’s Chief Executive said “We are very grateful to Keepmoat for again sponsoring the day for us. The support that we have had from Keepmoat as well as from our other contractors certainly contributed to the success of Tai Fest.
“We have also had some lovely comments from tenants with them describing Tai Fest as an ‘absolutely brilliant day’ and ‘a fantastic family day’.”
BRfm, which is sponsored by Tai Calon, compered the day. There were funfair rides as well as stalls were visitors could make badges or even try their hand at pottery.
Blaenau Gwent AM, Alun Davies, and Jen Barfoot presented the awards to tenants who have Made a Difference in their neighbourhoods. Gwynfor Evans from Green Earth at Tai Calon and Charlie Zennadi of Keepmoat announced the winners of the Tai Calon 2014 Garden Competition.
Looking forward to next year, Jen Barfoot added: “2015 is going to be a big year for Tai Calon as we complete all the promises we made to tenants on transfer from Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council. As a result, we already have plans to make sure that Tai Fest and our birthday celebrations next summer will be big events.”
