We are working to become Dementia Friendly
March 30, 2016
Blaenau Gwent is only the third area in Wales to be working towards becoming a dementia friendly community.
We are also passionate about the cause and supported the bid to start the process.
The application to the Alzheimer’s Society was successful and we, as well as other organisations and businesses, are now raising awareness and greater understanding of what it is like for people living with dementia.
Andrew Myatt, Director of Communities and Housing, and Rachel Rees, Valley Manager and Dementia Champion, are pictured receiving our “working towards” certificate from Blaenau Gwent County Borough Councillor Hayden Trollope. On the left is Phil Diamond who is leading the project.
The ceremony took place at Bedwellty House in Tredegar and Andrew Myatt told the audience that we “feel very privileged” to be involved in it.
Approximately 42,000 people in Wales have dementia. It affects 1 in 20 over the age of 65 and 1 in 5 over 80.
