We have more than 6,100 homes and are the largest social housing landlord in the county borough. We were created in July, 2010, after tenants of Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council voted in favour of their homes being transferred to a “not for profit” organisation.
During our first five years we spent upwards of £96 million bringing homes up to Welsh Housing Quality Standard (WHQS). This involved replacing kitchens, bathrooms and roofs as well as updating electrical wiring and heating systems. The standard is set by Welsh Government and was achieved on time and under the £111 million budget.
In April, 2016, we start a new five year programme. We are replacing all the windows in our homes as well as keeping them up to WHQS. We expect to spend around £15 million a year on repairs and maintenance.
We try to keep as much of the money we generate within Blaenau Gwent - creating employment as well as work placements, and, where possible, supporting local suppliers/contractors.
We also help tenants in many different ways - from supporting communities to tackling fuel poverty, offering advice on debt management and providing training opportunities.
We have a number of values which all staff are expected to adhere to:
Our Values are that we will:
- Focus on Tenants and communities
- Work honestly and transparently
- Show respect and professionalism
- Be excellent
- Improve and innovate
- Involve, listen and learn
Homes and thriving neighbourhoods where people are proud to live.
We also have two aims:
Our aim for people – We will support current and future tenants to sustain tenancies and communities
Our aim for places – We will provide quality homes in safe and pleasant environments to meet the needs of the changing population in Blaenau Gwent
We are "working to become a dementia friendly community".
