Making our homes a better place to live

At the time of stock transfer in July 2010, Tai Calon made a commitment to invest £111million in its homes so that they will meet the standards necessary to comply with the Welsh Housing Quality Standard (WHQS). The organisation is working very hard to ensure that all homes meet the WHQS by 2015.

These improvements will include installing new kitchens, bathrooms and heating systems, as well as external insulation,  roofs and windows, ensuring that your homes are wind and watertight. Tai Calon is already delivering these improvements ensuring that a good mix of small, medium and larger contractors is used. In addition, we are ensuring where possible, that our Property Services Team are engaged in supporting the delivery of the works, e.g. in our voids. Meeting this standard also requires improvements to external communal areas around your homes, and Tai Calon would be aiming to spend a considerable amount on environmental and external improvements during the first 5 years post transfer. This is likely to be in the region of £14 million.

If you would like more information on the WHQS, please click on the link below for the Welsh Assembly Government’s website which contains a lot more details on this subject.

Apart from our WHQS programme of improvements, we also undertake investment works such as:

  • Regeneration projects in key communities
  • Major repairs and adaptations to properties
