A phone call can help

Our team have been working hard contacting tenants to see if there is anything we can do to support them and we have heard some moving stories of people who are struggling during this challenging time.

Karen Croft, from our Ebbw Fawr Community Housing Team, told us whilst making calls to tenants she spoke to a gentlemen who was in desperate need of assistance.

During the conversation, the gentleman said he had a fall at Christmas and he has been mostly sat in his chair unable to bathe or sleep in his bed.  He already had poor mobility due to a longstanding illness but is now in extreme pain.  He is living alone and sadly his dog died last month.

Usually he has his shopping delivered but recently he has been unable to book a delivery slot.  Karen has arrange for him to have a food bank delivery, until assistance with his shopping can be arranged.

Karen also spoken with his Doctor and they have agreed to give him a call. Karen was able to refer him to the occupational therapy team, who will assess his mobility issues. During the call Karen alsodiscovered he is not receiving the amount of income that he is entitled and she was able to arrange a support referral.

The tenant says he is extremely grateful and overwhelmed with the help and communication he has received.

He told Karen,

I don’t want to be a bother to anyone.
