Tai Calon Community Housing is proud to support the launch of five new Community Kit Room donation bins across our community houses and sites in Blaenau Gwent. This initiative, delivered in partnership with Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council’s Waste and Recycling Team and Aneurin Leisure Trust, aims to make sportswear accessible to everyone — helping to remove barriers to getting active.

 

The Community Kit Room is a free service that provides clean, good-quality sports clothing and footwear to local residents aged 3 and above. It ensures that not having the right kit doesn’t prevent children, young people, and adults from taking part in sports, PE lessons, or fitness activities.

With donation bins now available at key Tai Calon locations, it’s easier than ever for people to donate items and support their local community. All donated clothing will go directly to those who need it most, helping to improve health, wellbeing, and inclusion through sport.

Where can people access support?

The main Community Kit Room hubs are located at Abertillery and Tredegar Sports Centres, where residents can enquire about available items and arrange to view and collect what they need.

To improve accessibility, additional local drop-off and collection points — including Tai Calon’s community houses — have been introduced, making it easier for people to donate or pick up kit closer to home.

What can be donated?

We welcome donations of:

  • General sportswear for ages 3 through to adults

  • Paired trainers and boots (tied together)

  • Items that are clean, washed, and in good condition

Unfortunately, we cannot accept:

  • Dirty, stained, or damaged clothing

  • Unpaired footwear

  • Sporting equipment

This is a fantastic example of partnership working in action — demonstrating how organisations, residents, and local businesses can come together to create real social value.
