Tai Calon was established on 26th July 2010. We are a not-for-profit, community mutual organisation and Blaenau Gwent’s largest social housing provider, with nearly 6,000 homes, comprising 5,685 general needs homes, 215 sheltered homes and 337 leaseholders across the County Borough.

We are a major employer in the local area, with over 260 well trained and committed staff. Our annual turnover is over £31 million.

To date we have invested over £120 million in our homes to ensure they reached and are maintained to the Welsh Housing Quality Standard.

In 2023 we gained our Great Place to Work certification and in 2024 we have retained our Great Place to Work certification.

In addition, the company secured Disability Confident status, recognising our efforts to ensure a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for disabled colleagues.

Our Mission

By 2025, over 90% of Tai Calon tenants will be satisfied, or very satisfied, with the overall service that they receive.

That overall satisfaction in 2025 will also reflect tenants’ opinions on:

The quality of their home; including the planned and significant improvement in its environmental efficiency, such that the average energy efficiency measure for all Tai Calon homes is 85 (as measured by the Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP), and;

The perception of their neighbourhood, is informed by some of the 200 new homes to be re-developed by Tai Calon across the county.

Blaenau Gwent offers some of the most affordable homes in Britain.

We’re very proud of the strong sense of community across our three valleys and the rich social history of the area, for example, the inspiration and birthplace of the National Health Service is in Tredegar.

Recent multimillion-pound investment into road and rail links has made commuting to Blaenau Gwent easier than ever.

There’s no shortage of things to do, with the Brecon Beacons National Park just a stone’s throw away; its picturesque landscape and hikes are some of the finest in Britain. The National Park offers a range of activities, from cycling and water sports to abseiling and rock climbing. Cardiff is a short distance away, as is Swansea’s Gower Peninsula.
