Residents, partners and community representatives came together to mark the launch of the first Crimestoppers Zone in Blaenau Gwent.

The new zone, located in Waunheulog, Nantyglo, has been delivered through a partnership between Crimestoppers, Tai Calon, Gwent Police’s Brynmawr Neighbourhood Policing Team and Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council. The launch was marked by the unveiling of a new estate sign for Waunheulog, designed by a talented local young person.
Crimestoppers Zones are designated areas where communities can report crime information 100% anonymously. The initiative aims to give people the confidence to speak up about issues affecting their neighbourhood while protecting their identity.
While Crimestoppers Zones are already established in areas including Newport, Merthyr Tydfil, Pontypridd and Cardiff, this is the first dedicated zone in Blaenau Gwent.
The launch builds on ongoing partnership work in Waunheulog, where agencies have been working together to address local concerns and improve the environment for residents. Recent joint visits have focused on tackling issues such as fly-tipping and identifying opportunities to make a positive difference across the estate.
The launch of Blaenau Gwent’s first Crimestoppers Zone is an important step in supporting safer, stronger communities. By working closely with our partners and local residents, we can help ensure people feel empowered to report concerns anonymously and play an active role in improving their neighbourhood.
