Tai Calon has celebrated another year of progress, investment and positive performance at its Annual General Meeting (AGM). 

The meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on the difference Tai Calon is making across Blaenau Gwent and look ahead to its plans for the future. Members heard updates on customer services, community investment, new homes, sustainability and the organisation’s financial performance. 

Over the past year, Tai Calon has continued to invest in existing homes and communities while maintaining a sound financial position. Excellent rental income collection and growth in the organisation’s net worth have strengthened its ability to invest in services, homes and neighbourhoods for customers, both now and in the years ahead. 

This financial resilience provides an important foundation for Tai Calon’s long-term plans, helping the organisation respond to changing needs while continuing to deliver value for customers and communities. 

The AGM also provided an opportunity to highlight Tai Calon’s latest Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and Performance Report, which sets out the organisation’s performance and progress across a wide range of areas. The report was positively received at the meeting and demonstrates Tai Calon’s commitment to being open and transparent about its performance. Read the report here.

From investing in homes and improving customer experience to supporting communities and tackling environmental challenges, the report provides a clear picture of the work taking place across the organisation and its contribution to creating long-term value for customers. 

Customer voice was another important theme throughout the AGM. Through initiatives such as Llais ein Pobl and ongoing opportunities to get involved, customers are helping to shape decisions, influence services and make a difference across Tai Calon. 

A key outcome from the meeting was the appointment of John Lewis as a new Tenant Board Member. 

John brings valuable experience from working in social housing, alongside his own perspective as a tenant and will help strengthen the customer voice at Board level. 

Welcoming John to the Board, Chair Julie Thomas said: 

We are delighted to welcome John to Tai Calon’s Board. His experience of working in social housing, together with his perspective as a tenant, will provide valuable insight as we continue to improve services and make decisions that matter to our customers. 

Listening to customers and understanding their experiences is central to everything we do, and John’s appointment will help us continue to keep that focus at the heart of our work.

Reflecting on her first year as Chair, Julie also took the opportunity to thank colleagues across the organisation for their support and commitment. 

Julie said: 

As I complete my first year as Chair, I would like to personally thank all Tai Calon colleagues, the Executive Team and my fellow Board members for the support they have given me throughout the year. 

I have seen first-hand the passion, professionalism and commitment people bring to their roles every day. Whether supporting customers, maintaining homes, delivering projects or working behind the scenes, our colleagues play a vital role in helping us achieve our ambitions.
