WWorks are continuing at pace on our Llangynidr Road development in Garnlydan, Ebbw Vale. The scheme occupies a prominent corner plot at the main entrance to the Garnlydan estate and is designed to create a strong, positive first impression while delivering much-needed affordable homes for the area.
The development comprises seven new homes, including three two-bedroom houses and four one-bedroom flats. It represents a £1.9 million investment, supported by £1.4 million of Welsh Government grant funding, and remains on programme for completion in November 2026.
Good progress has been made on the site in recent months. A key milestone has been achieved with the two-storey timber frame now fully erected.
Due to the structure’s size and complexity, a very large crane was required to safely lift and position the prefabricated timber frame panels. This was a significant operation and marked a major visual transformation, clearly showing the new homes taking shape on this landmark site.

Following the frame erection, ground-floor windows have been fitted, and the buildings are becoming increasingly weather-tight. Roofing works are now well underway, alongside the installation of solar panels, which form a central part of the scheme’s renewable energy approach. Once complete, the new homes will offer high levels of energy efficiency, using modern methods of construction and renewable energy technologies to help keep heating and energy costs as low as possible for residents, supporting both affordability and environmental sustainability.

Alongside delivering new homes, the project is also supporting skills development and future careers. Tai Calon bricklaying apprentice Josh Saxon has been working on the Llangynidr Road site since November 2025 and has gained valuable hands-on experience on a live new-build development. Being involved from the very start, Josh has supported works ranging from substructure and drainage through to assisting with the erection of the timber frame. Despite a challenging and exceptionally wet winter, the experience has significantly increased his confidence, skills and understanding of modern construction.
As construction continues, Tai Calon looks forward to completing this landmark development while continuing to invest in local people and future talent.
