Tai Calon’s latest residential development at the former Glan-yr-Afon Court in Ebbw Vale has begun construction following approval from Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council.

With support from the Welsh Government’s Social Housing Grants and the invaluable help of the Strategic Housing Team at Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council, this project is set to address critical housing needs in the borough. Partnering with Kingfisher Developments Wales Ltd, Tai Calon is committed to delivering much-needed homes for residents of Blaenau Gwent.

The development has full planning permission for 14 newly constructed, energy-efficient, affordable homes. Among these are two wheelchair-accessible bungalows, four walk-up flats, and eight houses built to meet the rigorous Lifetime Homes Standard. This standard ensures adaptability to tenants’ evolving needs, including ground-floor level access showers and wider doors for wheelchair accessibility.

Each home will adhere to high energy efficiency standards, achieving an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) ‘A’ rating and Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) 100 standard.

Built using modern construction methods, including closed-panel timber frames, the homes will feature an electric hot water system and heating, PV roof panels, and domestic storage batteries.

The landscape design incorporates Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), harnessing natural rainwater drainage and bio-retention areas within green spaces to enrich the surrounding environment.

Construction commenced on-site on Monday, April 15th, marking the beginning of an exciting journey toward fulfilling our 2020 Corporate Plan target of  building 200 new homes by the end of 2025.
