Tai Calon is proud to publish our second Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) and Performance Report, marking another important step in our journey towards sustainability, transparency and community wellbeing.

This latest report, covering April 2024 – March 2025, builds on the commitment we first announced last year when we formally adopted ESG principles across our organisation. Today, we are also proud to confirm that Tai Calon is an SRS (Sustainability Reporting Standard) Adopter 2026, further strengthening our commitment to high-quality, transparent sustainability reporting. What is ESG?

ESG stands for Environmental, Social and Governance.

It’s about integrating sustainability, ethical considerations and accountability into everyday business practice, focusing on three key pillars:

  • Environmental – Reducing our carbon footprint, improving energy efficiency, protecting biodiversity, and tackling climate change.
  • Social – Supporting customers, colleagues and communities, promoting wellbeing, affordability, safety, and opportunity.
  • Governance – Ensuring strong leadership, transparency, accountability, and ethical decision-making.

ESG is more than a framework — it is a roadmap for long-term success. By addressing ESG factors, we manage risks effectively, exceed stakeholder expectations, create lasting value, and strengthen our ability to attract sustainable investment.

Adopting ESG Excellence

Last year, we shared our commitment to “Adopting ESG Excellence”, embedding Environmental, Social and Governance principles into everything we do.

Everyone deserves a good, affordable home for their wellbeing. At Tai Calon, this belief drives us. Embracing ESG principles demonstrates our dedication to caring for the environment, supporting our communities across Blaenau Gwent, and operating with integrity and transparency.

By adopting ESG, we are ensuring our homes are not just places to live, but places that actively support a better quality of life, for today and for future generations.

Turning Commitment into Action

Our second ESG & Performance Report shows how that commitment is being delivered in practice.

Environmental Progress

  • Continued retrofit investment, including External Wall Insulation, solar PV and battery storage, and air source heat pumps.
  • All 23 homes at Glanffrwd delivered with EPC A ratings.
  • 100% compliance with Welsh Housing Quality Standards (WHQS).
  • Clear progress toward our ambition to become Carbon Neutral by 2028, supporting Welsh Government Net Zero targets.
  • Launch of our Tree Nursery and expanded biodiversity initiatives across more than 100 acres of managed green space.

Social Impact

  • 93% average transactional satisfaction from over 9,000 customer survey responses.
  • Strong performance in building safety, damp and mould management, and tenancy support.
  • Investment in youth sport through our Dragons RFC partnership, supporting 540+ children.
  • Funding swimming lessons for 27 ten-week blocks across local leisure centres.
  • Supporting vulnerable families through hardship funding, wellbeing services, and tenancy sustainment support.

Strong Governance

  • Enhanced Board and committee structures aligned with the Community Housing Cymru Code of Governance.
  • Transparent complaints reporting and lessons learned.
  • Customer Voice Strategy embedding resident feedback into decision-making.
  • Adoption of enhanced carbon reporting methodologies from 2025–26.

Proud to Be an SRS Adopter 2026

Becoming an SRS Adopter 2026 reinforces our commitment to consistent and comparable ESG reporting across the housing sector.

The Sustainability Reporting Standard (SRS) provides a recognised framework for reporting environmental and social performance. By aligning with SRS, we are:

  • Increasing transparency and accountability
  • Strengthening investor confidence
  • Benchmarking ourselves against sector best practice
  • Demonstrating that sustainability is central to our Corporate Plan 2030

This is a significant milestone in our governance and sustainability journey.

Building a Healthier Planet and Stronger Communities

We remain committed to:

  • Reducing our carbon footprint
  • Championing sustainability and tackling climate change
  • Uplifting our colleagues, customers and communities
  • Operating with integrity and transparency

Everyone deserves a good, affordable home. By embedding ESG principles across Tai Calon, we are ensuring our homes provide not only safety and security, but also contribute to healthier lives, greener neighbourhoods, and a more sustainable Blaenau Gwent.
