At Tai Calon, we’re committed to doing our bit for the planet and for the people who call Blaenau Gwent home. Tackling climate change and creating thriving communities go hand in hand. Together, we can protect the places we love and build a better future for everyone.
Here’s how we’re making a positive difference in our communities:
Supporting Nature and Wellbeing
Gardening Projects & Pollinator Havens
From community food growing gardens to wildflower planting, we’re helping local residents create green spaces that support bees, butterflies, and biodiversity.
Investment in Community Food Growing
With funding from the Local Places for Nature scheme (Heritage Lottery), we’re working with local groups to build three new gardens at Hilltop, Cefn Golau, and Coedcae Community House. These spaces will grow fresh produce, strengthen community ties, and reconnect people with nature.
Engaging Schools
Up to eight local schools will get involved in the food-growing strategy, helping young people learn new skills and explore environmental action in a hands-on way.
Biodiversity and Sustainable Homes
From hedgehog highways in garden fences to wildlife-friendly planting, we’re weaving nature into the design of our homes and estates — creating places that are good for people and the planet.
Supporting People and Skills
Wellbeing & Employment Support
Our Wellbeing Team helps residents build skills, improve confidence, and find their way back into work — helping both people and the planet to thrive.
Free Energy Advice
We offer residents free energy-saving tips and support, helping them reduce bills and lower carbon footprints at the same time.
Active Travel Champions
We promote walking, cycling, and greener travel options in our communities to reduce emissions and improve health.
Taking Action on Climate Change
Carbon Literacy Cartrefi Cymru (CLCC)
We’re proud to be part of CLCC — a consortium of 27 housing associations across Wales working to boost carbon literacy and climate understanding within the sector.
Wales’ First Climate Assembly
We supported Wales’ first Climate Change Assembly, led by Blaenau Gwent Council, giving local people a voice in shaping climate solutions that matter to them.
Giving Back to the Community
Charity of the Year
Every year, we choose a charity of the year to support through fundraising, volunteering, and awareness campaigns — because community is at the heart of everything we do.
