In August last year, Tai Calon launched the Woodland and Green Spaces Strategy and we are making good progress.

A key pillar in the strategy is Tree Planting and Woodland Creation. Now we have partnered with Sirhowy Woodlands to create a local tree nursery growing 3,000 locally grown trees. The trees will be ready to give to people within the local communities to plant in their gardens in Autumn this year and Spring next year.

This is an exciting development and gives Tai Calon a good start on our target of planting 8,000 trees by 2029 underpinned by community engagement. We’re excited to keep you all updated with the progress at the end of summer as the trees continue to grow and we start distributing them within the local community.

We have also made good progress in other areas of the strategy. With funding from the Local Places for Nature Fund from the Heritage Lottery, three community food growing gardens in Hilltop, Cefn Golau and Coed Cae are also in progress and will be finished by the end of the year, we will share updates as the gardens are developing.

Have a look at the video below from Susy Arnold, Director, Sirhowy woodlands as she explains a bit more about the tree nursery.
