What is Healthy Homes?
Healthy Homes started as a project to help increase the awareness of how to maintain a healthy home and why it is so important. The NHS, TPAS Cymru and a number of other recognised bodies have been involved to ensure the most accurate, helpful and easy to read advice. The purpose of the project is to provide clear information in a number of formats including booklets, web based content, short videos suitable for social media and links to relevant information published by other third part organisations to help our customers live in a happy, healthy home.
Why?
People are becoming increasingly aware of the benefits of living in a healthy home. Unhealthy homes that are cold, unkept, cluttered or have poor indoor air quality can significantly affect the health and wellbeing of those who live in them, increasing the risk of physical and mental health problems such as respiratory problems, cardiovascular disease, infectious diseases and depression.
It is important we all understand how to maintain a healthy home. Including reporting any repairs to your landlord, heating your home to maintain a minimum indoor air temperature (14-16 degrees), using extractor fans, trickle vents and windows to correctly ventilate your home, understand what causes poor indoor air quality and ensuring your home is kept clean and tidy.
Rising energy costs and the cost of living crisis have had a significant impact on the ability to heat and ventilate homes correctly. This has a significant impact on indoor air quality, producing damp and mould that forms on colder surfaces or places that are not ventilated correctly.
If you can’t afford to heat and ventilate your home correctly then the chances of mould forming increases significantly. If this becomes a problem it is important that you inform Tai Calon and together, we’ll work to find the best solution for you.
